Building And Sustaining
A Successful Practice

Course Description

Practitioners entering the healthcare field need two legs on which to stand: expertise in treating people and business skills. The goal is to do what you love and make a living at it. Success in business is the result of building healthy, positive, long-term relationships with people. In this innovative course, you will learn the fundamentals of effective and ethical practice management.

Although many practitioners learn these skills by trial and error over many years, it makes good sense to learn these skills and techniques prior to start-up. Professional practice management prepares the graduating student to combine their knowledge of their modality with proven business guidelines to form a practical approach growing a successful and fulfilling practice.

We begin with issues of personal and professional purpose, and progress toward the day-to-day operation of a prosperous healthcare practice. Areas we will cover include: how to set up a practice, legal setup of your business, patient care, front office procedures, marketing and advertising, time management, business operations, working with insurance, building relationships with other practitioners, accounting and financial planning. Students should bring specific questions, since it is not possible to cover every aspect of these subjects in one course.

Students will emerge from this course more eager and less afraid of the often-daunting prospect of starting a practice. And you will know what specific steps to take, starting a few months before graduation, and through the first few years of practice.
